    Hi.
Was really pleased to see it's not just me who is unsure as to which Autoclave to invest in.
Is there anyone who would mind giving a few minutes of time to some confused FHP to advise on which make/model would be the best to go for??
    Thanks for your time,
    Holly

  2. Hi holly,i have a prestige 2100 classic, never had any problems with it. Just remember as long as you keep on top of servicing it you will be fine. Join a group in your local area and they can help you. Not sure if this is much help but i was advice to go with the one that suited my budget at the time!!!!

    Good luck Jenni

    Hello Holly,
Have you checked that the 2100 Classic will take a printer? You will need to be able to show that the correct temperature was reached during the sterilisation process.

If you will be starting on purely domiciliary work, I would suggest that you invest in a vacuum autoclave that will sterilise the instruments in bags for you. These have built-in printers that will enable you to track the cycles.

You pay enough money to SMAE to qualify-surely thay have information to impart to you regarding sterilisation and decontamination?

Having read with interest the previous discussion on FHPs started by Jenni it is enlighteneing to see her views on the best autoclave. It really does give insight on what is considered good and safe practice by FHPs.

    Sue B,
This quote from Jenni also intrigued me.

If that's the criteria then those FHPs who have a very small budget will be soaking their tools in some disinfectant then ?

    Very erudite.

Holly there are good second hand autoclaves out there, go for one with a printer it will last you longer with legislation changes, if you can meet stringent Podiatrist codes of practice your ass will at least be covered if anyone ever makes a complaint.

always go for the best you can afford (bit like a car really) as you will be using it frequently (we hope if your business goes well).

SES and little sister autoclaves are the common type that were once found in our NHS clinics, there are a lot out there now going second hand as many have switched over the central sterilisation and one use packs.

look on ebay under autoclaves (dental/pod/tattoo are other buzz words to search)

also there is a really friendly company called http://www.chiromart.co.uk the old chap that runs it is very friendly and will talk you through what you need. and they specialise in refurbished units with a warranty and servicing.

    good luck

    Nic x
