    Morning all,

i had a young 28 year old lady in yesterday who was having issues with fitting her AFO into shoes. she has been using converse for a while but found the the ottobock walkon AFO just cuts the fabric upper to peices too quickly. she finds trainers ok at the moment and this is her prefered style.

she has managed to overcome the initial blistering and cuts and has some callus to the back of her heel where there is some pinching between the shoe and the AFO.

does anyone have any information or suggestion about they type of footwear she should be using with this device?

    many thanks

Okay pending where you are as to what brands are available.

Just fitted a pair of Duel http://www.bilbyshoes.com/page10.html
sandal on the right, to a client with MS wearing this device

Because they have a firm counter you can heat and reshape it around the AFO "rods" but a bit of heel pitch and a mild rocker added will cause less force on the back of the shoe and client.

You may also find your client in the Converse is hyper extending the knee which will cause the "rods" of the AFO to rub even more on the back top-line of the shoe

thanks Boots n all for your input. unfortunately the type of sandal i am 100% sure she would not go for. that age old problem of style over function i guess. no good having a load of 'good' shoes if you hate them and therefore leave in the bottom of the wardrobe!

good idea about the 'slight rocker bottom' though... will look at this more plus other threads posted by admin.

    thanks again.
