I was just wondering if anyone has any comments on the above 3d laser scanners. I am looking into getting one but would like to hear other peoples opinions. I tried searching papers on these scanners but haven't found much info.
The info i did come up with is that both work well but the veriscan is a little bit better. The price difference from the 2 distrubutors i talked to is about $1500 more for the veriscan than the sharp shape. Any info would be much appreciated!

Surely it depends on the lab you are planning to use and if they can accept and use the file from the scanner.

Craig is absolutely correct it depends on which lab you plan to use, and wheteher the scans can be used. most scanners export the images as STL files, sharpeshape has its own format and you could be tied into using only one lab.

check with the lab you plan to use as to what scans they can accept then find out what scanner they sell and see if you can use another lab. 99% of labs that sell scanner will tie you into them.

In the UK lots of the Labs now have scanners available. check them all there is a price difference, I know that most scanners in the UK are around £3500 sterling to buy, but some Labs will allow payment per pair of orthoses.

the 2 scanners above are from different labs, both if bought out, will not be tied to the lab and can be used at other labs. I'm just wondering if there is any major differences or better outcomes depending on the type of scanner it is.

Again, the price difference for the scanners vary widely, where the veriscan system being more then $1500 more, so i'm just wondering if it would be worth it in the long run to have it. Any pros and cons for each scanner would be greatly appreciated.

Upfront, I need to tell you that I represent a 3D Scanner, Vismach.com or nmotionlab.com to see details.

But the advice posted above is important. The file formats are not universal and even if you have open permission to send files to other labs, they may or may not
be able to accept a format you can output. If you want to be totally satisfied, contact a large number of labs you might want to use and ask what formats they can accept.

Second, you should investigate the advantages of white light projection scanners
as opposed to laser. They are much faster in capture time and have no moving parts to wear out and are competitively priced.

By the way, if you want to be totally independent, I will be offering a complete in office lab solution in the next couple of months for as low as 8k depending on options. (Scanner/Software/Milling Machine)
