Hi folks,
I'm looking to establish a career as a chiropodist, but have a few questions about getting started..
Is it essential to have the A levels as requested, or is there any flexibility for mature students?

What is the acceptance rate (roughly) of mature students?

I hear it is possible for the NHS to cover course fees, is this the normal practice?

Any information would be great.

To be eligible to apply for NHS financial support, you must be accepted for an NHS funded place on a full or part-time course which leads to professional registration such as podiatry.

I would contact a school of choice and discuss with them your educational background, you may like myself have to take a science based access course. That was a good introduction to university and gave you time to plan ahead and get your head around the idea.

I wish you the best of luck, and its a popular course for mature students so don't be put off there are lots of incentives.

Some (possibly all?) universities offer a foundation, undergratuate course for students who may not have the usual entry requirements.

Just thought I would let you know that thanks to your advice I am very close to completing my foundation course at Huddersfield and am all set to begin the 3 year degree in September. This year has been a great help and should set me in good stead for the degree to come.

I did Podiatry at Huddersfield following a Foundation 'degree' there. Your foundation year will really stand you in good stead for the degree. Dr. J Killey was the course leader who took my group, she was excellent. If you have any queries please feel free to contact me......Ah, it brings back memories, in fact I think I loved my time at Hudds, well, mostly....!

Dr Killey has been lecturing the Anatomy and Physiology module of this year. She is very good, makes it easy to understand. She will be continuing that section next year with the Pod and Physio students. Glad you enjoyed it, it has been a good 1st year for me too. :)
