    Hello everybody!
My name is Gus and I am a new member here.
I am peruvian guy who is 29 years old with a temporary residence in Australia.
I applied to UWS for the the course of Health Science- Master in Podiatry.

I was rejected and I enquired why as I got high marks in my high school trandscript back home, (18.5/20) .
Uni told me its really hard to get into as internationla students have to compete with domestics studnets who have really high marks like 99/100 , most of these are studnets who are trying to study medicine.

I got quiet disappointed as I find it quiet hard to get into uni like an international student. Any tip? How could I become more "choosible" if that word exists, lol.

I have thought of applying to UNiversity of Newcastle but I live in Sydney and need to keep working , I think its a bit far to go and would spend too much time traveling.

Anybody who has tried to apply to any UNI in Sydney? thanks so muhc for your help.

    Regards,

    Gus

Podiatry in Australia is a 3yr (Newcastle) or 4yr (everywhere else) undergraduate degree. A number of Universities are now offering a 2yr graduate entry Masters option. UWS is one of those offering this. To be eligible for this, you already need to have a Bachelors degree (preferably in a health related discipline) and have prerequisite knowledge in specified areas. Was it the 2yr Masters or the 4yr undergrad that you applied for?

Suggest to talk to the staff at UWS about your options. There may be something you can enrol in (eg a generic Bachelors of Health Science degree) and hopefully get really good marks and then apply for the podiatry degree .... talk to them about these kinds of options.

    ThanksCraig,
I talked to UWS and they suggested to apply to bachelor of health science, the basis degree which ATAR is just 65 and after the first year apply to Podiatry if my marks are great.
Well, guess what? I got accepted, Im so happy. I gotta work out now that I gotta apply like an International student and swap to domestic next year as Im becoming a resident probably in February.
Thanks so much for your advise and help! By the way, I love Melbourne.
    Thanks

    Gus

That's great Gus, congratulations! I have applied to University of Newcastle for next year, as I live right near the Central Coast Campus. Like you, commuting is not an option for me. I won't know until main round offers in January if I've been accepted.

It is so interesting to me that different areas have different demands and therefor higher or lower ATARs. The ATAR for Newcastle last year was only 77, but at other universities it was in the high 80s.

    Good luck with your studies!

    Kath :)

    Hey Gus~
What a coincidence i'm actually a first year podiatry student from UWS. It's a shame that you got rejected but i think you can make it in as your past mark does sound pretty good. I think they will let you transfer if you get something like 2distinctions+2credits...
    Good Luck!
