I want to buy a foot scanner do you have anything to recommend?

Unfortunately there is no best.
You need to talk to the lab that you work with or want to worth with to see which ones are compatible with their systems.

You should speak to your lab first. To ensure you scanner will be the correct file format.
Labs will usually have their preferred scanner.
Other considerations , -some scanners require a dimly lit room, or hardwire connection.
Some labs accept Iphone X 3d scans

 

I totally agree with you, Footprint files are often .obj or .ply. Make sure you dispose of it freely. There are many inexpensive solutions to scan a foot, a silicone cushion or an impression box ... photogrammetry, realsense or Lidar technologies. Looking forward to reading you.
