I've recently been told by a pharmacist neither of these products is now available. He was kind enough to ring the manufacturers for me and was told 'they might be available next year, possibly'. He couldn't recommend anything similar and said they've basically left us high and dry.
Does anyone know of a supplier who has any stock of either? or can recommend an alternative spray?

 

Try C&P Medical (www.myfootcaresupplies.com) for Videne Alcoholic Tincture or Antiseptic Solution - active ingredient Povidone-Iodine USP 10%w/w (1%w/wavailable Iodine) - for use topically as a pre-operative skin disinfectant.

 

Seems to be back in stock. Mine arrived the other day after an 11 month wait!

I see Canonbury have it in their new catalogue so I would of thought it was not deleted from use.

I spoke to the manufacturer earlier this year and was assured it would be back on the shelves in 4 weeks !!

I sent them an email just before Xmas and got an acknowledgement of the mail but no reply. I was about to follow it up after the break.

I have had 2 on order from C&P since last February so hopefully they will arrive soon :rolleyes:

My clinic has had Betadine dry powder SPRAY on back-order with Canonbury Products (UK) for at least the past six months. The most plausible explanation recieved to date is a possible licensing issue with the manufacturer. I have recently obtained (Dec 2013) Betadine Iodine SOLUTION (10% Povidone Iodine W/V) from Siam Store on Amazon.co.uk (£4.38 for two small dropper nossle bottles, manufactured 13.6.13 by IDS Manufacturing Limited in Thailand under License to Mundipharma Ltd, Netherlands). Whilst I cannot personally test or vouch for its iodine content, anecodally it seems to stain skin as usual and to be prophylaxis of superficial infections. It appears to be a genuine product, which you may wish to consider.

My query to Canonbury Products in the UK on 3rd Jan 2014 indicated they would be OUT OF STOCK of Betadine dry powder spray until the end of January, at the earliest. They have not had any stock of Betadine for six months. My contact suggested that the problem may be that the MHRA (UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) has removed the license for Betadine.

In these days of over-prescription of anti-biotics, I find it very odd (if not frustrating) that an established World War One remedy for superficial infection has been removed from our clinics. Does anyone have contact with an investigative journalist? Is this something that Podiatry Now (UK Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists) might take up on behalf of our profession?
