BACKGROUND:
Intralesional bleomycin is effective for the treatment of various dermatologic conditions. However, the efficacy of intralesional bleomycin for the treatment of corns has not been established.
METHODS:
A total of 50 patients with plantar corns were recruited and equally divided between groups A and B. Groups A and B were then treated with intralesional bleomycin (1 mg/ml) after paring the hyperkeratotic tissue and simple paring, respectively. The patients visited our clinic at 3-week intervals and were treated for a maximum of 10 sessions.
RESULTS:
Patients in groups A and B were treated for 35 and 29 corns, respectively. The curative rates of the patients in groups A and B were 37% (13 of 35) and 7% (three of 29), respectively. The proportions of lesions in groups A and B that demonstrated a decrease in size by >50% were 80% (28 of 35) and 38% (11 of 29), respectively. The total number of patients that demonstrated excellent symptomatic improvement in group A was 15 of 22. Excellent responses were achieved within a small number of treatment sessions, ranging from one to four sessions (average: 2.6). Statistical differences in terms of the degree of size reduction and pain relief were noted between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONS:
This study provides evidence that intralesional bleomycin (1 mg/ml) injection could be one of the ideal treatments for corn. Intralesional bleomycin is particularly useful for reducing lesional pain and size within a short period

I would be very interested to know if any histology investigations were undertaken and also see the solitary `before & after` pic including in this article. It has been blurred on preview, to encourage purchase, obviously.

Intralesional bleomycin is well documented for some efficacy in treatment of HPV and I`ve read more than a few articles where said `corns` are clearly HPV-1.

I'm a little confused as to why a group of fifty people were split into two equal groups and then beintreated exactly the same, with varying results between the two groups.
What is this conclusive of?
Am I missing something?

BACKGROUND:
Treatment of plantar warts is difficult and requires multiple treatments, and they are more refractory to treatment than common warts. Intralesional bleomycin has been used in the treatment of warts with varying degrees of success.

AIM:
The aim of the present work is to evaluate the efficacy of intralesional injection of bleomycin in the treatment of plantar warts based on clinical and dermoscopic observations.

PATIENTS AND METHODS:
Bleomycin (1 mg/ml) was injected intralesionally into the pared plantar wart every 2 weeks for a maximum of four sessions. Patients were followed both clinically and by the use of dermoscope.

RESULTS:
The cure rate of plantar warts treated with bleomycin was 69.3% with minimal and tolerable side effects.

CONCLUSION:
Intralesional injection of bleomycin is an effective and safe treatment of plantar warts. Dermoscope is recommended in the evaluation of treatment success, as it can accurately tell if the wart needs further treatment, preventing premature stoppage of the treatment, thus decreasing the possibility of recurrences.
