I would like to discuss Human Nature and its relevance to your future...

I have been doing some reading of late on the Nature of Man and our still prevalent Herding nature. Now all those "individuals" step to the right with the rest...

It seems that there are many indicators of the herding nature of man but the stock market is an easy one for us all to relate to. I could expand upon this but you could just google Socioeconomics and Elliott Wave theory.

Recently I have been noticing an increase in Posts that I will describe as the "Them & Us" posts. It seems that this is all predicted with the advent of a Bear Economy.

In a Bear Economy groups become polarized...Orthopods Vs Podiatric Surgeon,
Podiatrists Vs Sports Shoe retailers, Pro Barefoot Vs Anti Barefoot ETC ETC

In a Bull Economy everybody loves each other because we are all Positive and willing to forgive others little differences.

Is the Arena in a Bear or Bull phase???

What Phase is your World in and how will you address it???

my clinical life has always had "bear" elements to it (private sector)

maybe those in public/community health are a little more "bullish" in their attitude

 

I completely agree. As an amateur psychosociologist, I have a theory. For many in the professional world, what I call the 3 big E's drives this type of behavior:

Economics, Elitism (my group is better than yours), and Egotism (I am the best within my group). When any of the E's are threatened, the individual acts out along all 3.

There is a certain American "biomechanist" who posts on the Arena and epitomizes this concept (not you KK).

My wording was wrong

In the private sector its a bear market due to external competition eg the physio that prescribes orthotics, the local shoe store that "analyse your gait" and the GP's who dont think Pods should be doing nail surgery......As a result I feel many private practitioners take on the "us against them" attitude. Its common to see private practitioners beating their chest, high on their own sense of elitism, egotism and hefty consult fees. Although its frustrating to see, I understand they are just protecting their business and hip pocket.

My statement about the public system was more of a question to evoke a response from those in hospitals/community health.

I work in community health. I would say there is no difference between public and the private sector (bear vs bullish). We all have to prove we can do the job and build a good reputation from other professionals and our patients.

I work in a system that is not team focused and all work as individual units in an allied health department, physiotherapy don't accept referals from podiatry internally(bear economy). A dinosaurish approach to health care is my opinion.

I would say in my situation its a bear economy. Take for example post tib dysfunction for whatever aetiology referred to physio. In a multi D approach podiatry = orthoses to reduce forces on the tendon orthotist = boots above ankle with extended rigid heel counter? Not happening in my world, not good for patients.

In this day and age we need to work together to get better outcomes from our patients.

Bear mostly. At least it felt that way last Saturday in the Smokey Mountains.

 

The bear was about 25 feet away as I was walking through the Cades Cove area in the Great Smokies National Park in Tennessee. Saw 3 others
