    Hi there

We are looking at setting up a new practice and desperatly need some advice. Do the treatment rooms ie general podiatry rooms need to be private or can the walls not go to roof? Also can the biomechanical area be used by practitioners at the same time or does that affect patient privacy? Hoping to get some great advice as this is our first foray into a bigger clinic with extra practitioners.
    Thanks
    Chelle

I would assume there would be some privacy issues if other clients could hear what was going on in a partitioned cubicle next to them. Look at it from a patients perspective, I know I wouldnt feel comftable.

On the other hand I have utilised a "communal space" with a physio that had treadmill, pilates equipment etc. It worked quite well , often having a second opinon is handy!. Patient consent is important, you have to make sure they are comftable "strutting their stuff" in front of others

Agreed, it all depends on how comfortable the patient is with provate information being discussed in the open. The trend in recent yrs has been towards much more privacy. Even a number of the 'open plan' physiotherapy and chiropractic clinics have gone to private rooms because of the privacy issues.

Hi even within pharmacy there are rule changes on names and discussing meds at counters. All is fine until you have something contagious, high risk, talking medications and complicated health needs.
Do you want your neighbour, mate, granny hearing about it?
If you want to be professional you also need to look the part?

    Good Luck

Thanks everyone for your responses. As the clinic is a shared practice of physio, sports med Dr and podiatrist we will need to organise times i believe for using the bio room for each of us. Thanks again.

    Chelle,
I agree with Brevis about "communal space", I think you could get away with a shared bio room with the patient's consent, especially if you have other sports professionals involved...you can just market it to your patients as a team care approach. People are used to working out in gyms in front of others, so i don't think many would be too uncomfortable. Those that are, you try to have the option of a more private set up.
However, I don't think that open general treatment clinic rooms are a good idea though - you want walls there.
Essentially, I think the key is patient consent.
Hope you get set up ok.

    Cheers,
    Nat

having everyone hear the screams of patients as they are injected with LA isnt a great promotional tool either!!!
