Hi

There is a local FHP who has the letters MSC, MAFHP, MCFHP after her name.
The MAFHP and MCFHP are known to me, being their membership to the Foot health practioners bit
.
Its the MSC that is misleading as it looks like a masters of science degree or even suggesting 'Membership of the Society of Chiropodists'

Anyone know what the MSC really means? Or could mean?

There were two FHPs in my area that put BSc after their names ( as well as the FHP qualification letters) and I agree that it could be misleading.

It appears that one had a BSc in Nursing and the other in Economics ( !). They are now no longer trading.

So you need to ask yourself, if they are so well-qualified in a specialist area, how is it they want to work for peanuts on the bottom end of the footcare ladder?

All the folks I know with such qualifications are working productively in their chosen field.

It's not illegal and I shouldn't worry.

It's a crowded market and they probably won't survive.

In my experience most FHPs don't last more than 2 years ...

 

Because they are FHPs, the HCPC can't touch them. Advertising Standards possibly?!

It is highly misleading to the public!

If they were HCPC regulated, they could discipline.

That is why, the footcare industry in this country is a joke, because the regulation is completely ineffective.

As an aside, I was called to someone with a very painful corn, who had been having treatment from a FHP every 6 weeks, This very heavy callous was at breakdown stage, and had to be drained of fluid. No way on this planet had this callous been treated PROPERLY once every 6 weeks. I have photos of before / during debridement / and post debridement.

Oh and the FHP was charging the highly respectable price of ?20, once every 6 weeks. In my opinion, the patient had been ripped off.

The FHP is a chock a block with work. I feel that for a lot of patients, 6 weeks is too soon. Thickened nails, for example, done properly, last longer than 6 weeks! This FHP uses a dremmel!

I have to take issue with your statement "the footcare industry in this country is a joke".

Are you aware of the advances we've made in the last 40 years?
Or the opportunities now available to UK Pods?
Are you aware that FHPs can now use their diploma to gain fast track entry to a Podiatry degree?

The profession is very much what we make it. Regulation may not be all that we would wish, but that will change, bit by bit. As an aside you may like to change profession to something more closely regulated - Medicine, or Law?

Many of us have spent much time and money in self-development, and in paving the way for others to develop. It irks to read posts like yours.
