    Hi folks.

I have an interest in the blend of what we term "orthodox" and "alternative", "complementary" medicine. On the complementary side one of the practioners mentioned the presence of "Flukes" in the pancreas of diabetics. I thought the following might be of interest and perhaps the more knowlegable amongst us would like to comment. There are some bold statements here and the quote has no references but the contents are an interesting thought. Amongst all the other reasons people give for why diabetes is on the increase could there be a partial solution to the problem here

    cheers

    Ian

    Intestinal flukes

Anthony - Good find on intestinal flukes. They certainly now got their share of legal probs claiming flukes cause cancer, diabetes and alzheimers etc.

I am a regular reader of Quackwatch and JunkScience, but missed this fluke one.

Unfortunalty, Quackwatch are not without there own problems and critcs:
Quackwatch group accused of racketeering in Colorado lawsuit and there is even an anti Quackwatch web site, Quackpot Watch - I guess that when the anti- websites start appearing, then its sign that you made it .... bit like the Bill O'Reilly Sucks site :p

    podiatric physicians not quacks

i found this discussion about flukes being a causative agent in diabetes to be very troubling from a professional point of view.it is one thing for a herbalist or naturapath to entertain anecdotal theories that are way of the mainstream of medicine.this is kind of what you expect from them(i mean no disrespect to naturapaths).
however,as podiatrists we are trained as physicians and surgeons of the foot, within the standards of allopathic medicine.if we wish to be included as physicians within mainstream medicine we simply can not afford to entertain such nonesense.
