    Hi Michael,

A question dear to my heart....................

There is nothing remotely suprising in a gorilla being able to walk upright on a soft and undulating surface. The great apes are the only animals which have the ability to walk plantigrade, and as such they can maintain an upright stance for short periods. You've probably seen film footage of a gorilla standing upright and beating it's chest? It would, however, be unusual for a gorilla to be able to walk upright on a hard, flat surface for very long.

Like Homo Sapiens, Gorilla Gorilla has not adapted for life on a hard, flat surface. As you know, we shared a common anscestor some millions of years ago. Homo Sap have gone along the evolutionary road towards upright stance and gait, whereas Gorilla Gorilla has evolved for climbing and loping, with massive strength thown in for good measure.

    :good:
