    article out in wound journal

    hi

there have been two recent published articles regarding honey as a post op nail surgery dressing. They can both be found on google and are both RCTs done by Podiatrists in the north east of England.

I would be greatful to all those that advocate honey as a wound dressing to stress to their patients that the application used by health professionals is in sterile form.

Very recently I had a patient with poor immune status-post facial cancer, post CVA (possibly Vioxx induced) and badly in need of podiatric surgery but can't face it due to everything else-try Mannuka honey bought in from a health food store on her badly needing surgery wound. The result was a raging infection needing antibiotic cover further eroding her immune status.

Bless her for trying anything to resolve the problem but please, please all those that advocate honey mention the word sterile in their advice.

    Hils

I have never used honey as a post op dressing medium.I guess it works by altering the pH of the wound but I am not sure..
