Hi everyone!
Forgive me if this thread appears twice as I'm still getting a feel of using the forum!!
I wonder if my fellow colleagues can help me.
I work for a corporate who wants me to carry out nail surgery for the company, which is fine by me. However, I haven't seen any anaphylaxis or O2 etc. I know some procedures have been carried out. Should anything occur, would the onus be on myself or down to the company?:deadhorse:

I would view with caution. Check with your professional body to ascertain if you are covered.

Personally I would not attempt to administer LA unless I was totally happy that all potential problems were reduced by being prepared prior to any procedure.

If you are performing the procedure then you should be able to specify your requirements pre-op.

I will bear this in mind. The pace at which this company has clients booked in is fast and I never get time to speak to anyone as it is so target driven. However, I feel this is very important so I will STOP and ask, instead of waiting for something to happen which then puts me in a different predicament.

Hi soux, do you have a pre op questionaire that is done before the surgery? At the very least you need to know their general health and any contraindications, let alone allergies. Must admit I could not work in that type odf environment. Good Luck,

Yes, pre op is carried out. My fear is if the patient collapses in the surgery, there is nothing to offer them, not even a glucose drink, which I find a little daunting. I am trying to move on (job wise) but there doesn't seem to be very much stable work out there!

I wouldn't be happy doing it either, I've worked too long and hard to get my registration. I feel that as a qualified practitioner, it is my responsibility to make sure that emergency supplies are in place. Probably easy for me to say, as I work in my own practice, but would need to know that if the worst was to happen, there was something usefull that I could do!

These are my very sentiments. It does seem a bit futile. We work so hard to get the qualifications, yet it seems very quick to loose it!
I have now asked for some emergency equipment to be put in place.
