Management of Moderate Chronic Pain in Osteoarthritis
Goal
The goal of this activity is to provide healthcare providers with a better understanding of the management of moderate chronic pain related to osteoarthritis.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Recognize the major pharmaceutical, nonpharmaceutical, surgical, and complementary treatment possibilities for moderate chronic osteoarthritic pain.
Elucidate the role of the primary care physician in proper evaluation of the patient and selection of optimal initial and maintenance pain therapy in the setting of moderate pain related to osteoarthritis.
Review obstacles to treatment, including adverse effects, dosage schedules and comorbid conditions, and ways to overcome them in order to provide safe and effective therapy.
