    Hi,

I have been contacted by a patient asking re MBT shoes. These are apparently of the old earth shoe type with a negative heel. He asked if these will affect his back. They are not compatible with functional orthoses The only research I've been able to find was a study indicating decreased mid and mid and rear foot loading and increased forefoot loading...predictable.

Though I have no experience with it directly, there are shoes that have minimal lowering of the heel of about 1-5 degrees. These are, I'm told compatible with orthoses. As long as excessive pronatory motion is disallowed, these may be helpful it seems to me in stretching tight musculature.

Love to hear of any thoughts or experiences any might have to share on this.

    Thanks.
