    The AMA just doesent stoppp.

Ms Roxon has all but ruled out creating a new Medicare rebate specifically for podiatric surgery.

The surgery is covered by the Medicare rebate for orthopaedic surgery and Ms Roxon says that it is unlikely to change.

“I think that the chances, to be honest, are pretty slim,” she said when asked if surgery carried out by podiatrists, not surgeons, would get its own rebate.

“From my knowledge to date, it’s really an area where there isn’t clear agreement that proper quality standards and professional training would be met, and obviously in those circumstances we wouldn’t consider making any changes.”

A review is due to report soon on accreditation standards for podiatric surgery. The AMA says that the standards must be equal to those of the medical profession.
