    Hi all

I have heard recently of a nerve implantation to cure 'drop foot'. I can't seem to find anything apart from an electrical stimulation implant. Can any body shead any light on this please.

    Cheers

I have not heard of that....
There has been a lot of work done on implantation of nerve stimulators for drop foot.

    Hi Craig and Lee,

Thanks for the replies, I have seen the post you mentioned, and have heard from somewhere that a physical implant was in the preliminary satges.

Is that at all possible, either now or the future?

    I shall research further.

    Cheers

    Functional electrical stimulation

    Hello David,
I'm not directly involved in the projects, but there's also the 'Healthy Aims' project that's got Salford as a partner (see http://www.healthyaims.org/ and http://www.healthcare.salford.ac.uk/crhpr/healthy-aims.htm for further details.) Some of the implantable devices are currently being tested by Salford's partners in this European project, so I guess the answer is yes, there are working devices out there, but it's still being tested.

Electrical Nerve Stimulation for foot drop

Is anyone aware of any recent, good quality current research regarding Electrical Nerve Stimulation in Foot Drop?

Most of what I can find so far seems to be retrospective studies, and not randomised etc, etc. (Ethically difficult I guess) My local PCT is interested in trying to secure funding for this as a treatment but everything still in the early stages.

Would appreciate anything that anyone can offer including other treatment options (AFO etc), possible surgical alternatives, which patients are most likely / least likely to benefit from nerve stimulation.

    Thanks in advance

    Nikki
