We aim to recruit 2-3 PhD students to the musculoskeletal research programme at Glasgow Caledonian University building on our strengths in rheumatology related research. The process is slightly different this year with prospective candidates working with the research team to develop projects.

Our current areas of interest focus on mechanisms of disease and impairment; diagnostic, prognostic and outcome use of ultrasound; MRI; and the development and testing of non-pharmacological interventions, in particular rapid manufacturing of orthotics. We have protocols running in joint and soft-tissue disease in rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis; juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and soft-tissue msk disorders, in particular tendinopathies and enthesitis. Our lab is also the coordinating centre for the EU funded A-FOOTPRINT study.
Our laboratory facilities include a 16 camera MOCAP system (Qualysis, Oqus), 2 Kistler force-plates; 32 channel fine-wire and surface EMG (Delsys, telemetry Trigno system), platform and in-shoe plantar pressure measurement systems (Novel and RSscan); portable and mainframe high-resolution ultrasound scanners(Esaote) with 3D probe; and funded access to 3T MRI, 64-slice CT and nuclear imaging.
Best wishes,
Jim Woodburn
