How do you dispose of yours?

From EZ swabs data sheetv - Dispose of as medical waste.

From liquified phenol data sheet - Dispose as hazardous waste.

I use both types. I throw used swabs in yellow bag and take the out of date bottles back to pharmacy.

  2. We were always told by Environmental Services at the hospital to dispose of it down the sink. One of my patients agreed as her mother used to clean the toilet with it. However, I'd be following the safety advice sheets :)

It's kind of toxic to be putting in drains. I asked my dad who is a chemist and he recommended neutralizing it with hydrogen peroxide. I'll have to ask him again what the chemical reaction is.

phenol is only aweak acid so if youve only got 10 mls water it down then put down toilet however if you have 500 ml bottles like i use send back to the pharmacy.

When my liquid Phenol went out of date I phoned my clinical waste disposal company and they collected it along with the yellow bags. They didn't charge me any extra for it either - bonus!
