I would be most grateful for Podiatrist's views of what Orthotic manufacturing firms are best to use in Britain.
    Thank you Bonnie

Don't think you can say which is best as there are so many factors to consider and I suspect for many of us it will also include the working relationship we have with the company. For me I am always pleased with the product and service I receive from Salts Healthcare in Birmingham. The person to contact that is Phil Wells, who also belongs to Pod Arena.

When shopping around for a lab I found prices varied a lot, anywhere between £60-£150 per pair. Some labs sent me order forms which were either complicated or wanted so much information it took about 2 hours to fill out. 1 lab insisted the patient had to go to them for the cast to be made! I did find one lab that I was happy with but decided in the end I would make my own.

I managed to get all the equipment for under £200, including grinder, oven and vacuum former. Admittedly the first few took ages and were awful but I can now make up to 8 pairs per day equal in quality to any I got from a lab.

  4. Ditto the above. Excellent service and products.

I guess it depends on what type of products you are looking for, if rigid cast products then it is most likely easiest to work with a lab, if it is semi rigid products then there are a whole heap of systems out there which allow you to make great product in house which means after the initial investment in the system/tools to do the job you can create products which can make you a good margin and still be a sensible price to the patient
