Podiatry Today, the most widely read publication in podiatry, has recently been conferred several honors for best medical publication, news and design excellence. The newly announced awards include a Magnum Opus Silver Award for Best All Around Medical Publication and two APEX Awards for News Writing and Design & Layout.
"What we continually strive to do with Podiatry Today is provide a practical clinical magazine that addresses emerging clinical topics as well as the 'meat and potatoes' conditions that podiatric physicians see in practice everyday," says Jeff Hall, Vice President & Executive Editor of Podiatry Today who has worked on the publication for nearly a decade. "These honors are a reflection of the entire staff of the magazine. They are also a testament to our sterling Editorial Advisory Board, our regular clinical columnists and other key physician contributors."
Podiatry Today's Senior Editor Brian McCurdy earned his third APEX Award for News Writing. The story, ACFAS Changes Dual APMA Membership Policy (
www.podiatrytoday.com.article/8248) ran in the February 2008 issue of the magazine and offered a variety of viewpoints on one of the most controversial issues to emerge in podiatry in recent years. This is the third APEX Award for McCurdy who earned one in 2005 for Health & Medical Writing and one in 2004 for Feature Writing.
"With our 'News & Trends' section, we try to provide the depth behind the news story. In this instance, the ACFAS/APMA story involved a very controversial issue with a number of different perspectives," says McCurdy, who has worked on the magazine for more than seven years. "In order to stay on top of these issues, we consistently talk to our readers, attend conferences and sit in on lectures so we can deliver a quality publication that is eagerly anticipated by our subscribers."
Creative Director Vic Geanopulos was awarded an APEX Award for the August 2007 issue of Podiatry Today which featured the Top Ten Innovations in Podiatry.
"Being recognized by industry peers is an honor in itself," say Geanopulos. "Working with the team at Podiatry Today makes it easy to put out quality work and I'm proud the entire team has been acknowledged in their efforts."
The Magnum Opus Awards recognize excellence not only for entire publications but for the best elements of those publications, from design elements like illustrations, photography, and typography to content like editorials, CEO letters, and essays. Entries are reviewed by judges from the Missouri School of Journalism along with other industry leaders.
The Annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence recognize excellence in publications' work by professional communicators. APEX Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. The 20(th) Annual APEX Awards drew nearly 4,500 entries.
