Pt of mine due to have surgery for above soon. I belive through the dorsal.

Asking about post op rehabilitation times, whilst I appreciate every surgeon and pt are individual perhaps some one could help with generalities.

    How soon weight bearing.

    How soon driving.

    How soon "back to normal"

He is a very active farmer who also does sking and almost extreme sports.

I really only want averages please

Rough averages here, subject to significant variation:

Immediate guarded weight bearing, 1-2 weeks post op shoe and compression bandage
Mild to moderate oral analgesics, RICE
1-2 weeks off weight bearing employment
Weeks 2-6 in lace-up shoe, pain reducing substantially, typically off pain medication
Gentle exercise and moderate weight bearing allowed
At 2-3 months most swelling resolved, most people returning to full exercise at tolerance
6-12 months walking normally and forgetting about the foot
1-2 years, some return of sensation to web space

Ditto LL except I think 6-12 months "forgetting about foot" may be a bit conservative.

Why do you ask? Are you doing the post op care?

no just a general pod,but have got to know pt very well he comes in occasionally for corns and in the past have had orthotics made for him.

however when he asked me about post op care i had to admit I hadnt a clue and thought for my benifit and to be able to tell him i would find out.

ie. I dont know but will find out!! good CPR.

thank you both very much for your answers i have sent them to him
