Does anyone have any experience of this condition effecting a foot. It has left a patient of mine with a lack of fatty padding on the lateral aspect of her foot.The patients query was she had read an article about people having "padding" injected into their feet abd she wondered if this is something that may be able to help her, I am going to have a look in to it but thought I would share this one and see how many people I can get to pump the condition into google ? As it was a new one on me

Hi Tim I regularly see a lady with scleroderma who periodically gets ulcers (similar in appearance to gouty ulcers with tophi) containing crystaline deposits, once these have been secreted over a period of weeks/months the lesions heal. During this time I do minimal debridement and concentrate on off loading as neccessary and preventing secondary infection. As for lack of fibrofatty padding I understand that injections of restalayne, a product which stimulates collagen formation, around the metatarsal area can help although I have no personal experience and I am not sure if scleroderma would contraindicate this. If successful they need to repeated at approximately 6 monthly intervals. hope this helps
