    Blood "sucking" female mosquitoes are attracted to there hosts not to blood I suppose if they drank spilled blood the protiens needed for egg makiing may be less viable. also they dont "suck" as such they get pressure fed by blood pressure, thats why you can squeeze a mossies proboscus in the skin and it will eventually explode cause it cant shut off the supply of blood. CO2 dry ice traps are used mainly in attracting them, how they compare to socks is a good question because smelly socks are plentiful where-as CO2 is expensive.
