    hi,

    Just a question.

I have a 50 year old women with plantar fascitiitis symptoms of about 3 weeks duration. Foot structure is good - very minor pronation. She has been running on concrete surfaces for about 3 years with supportive foot wear and has never had symptoms before. I have strapped the foot with minor success and issued orthotics today. Discussed avoiding running on concrete etc. Plantar fascia very tender on palpation, especially at medial cuneiform area.

My concern is about the odema she is experiencing in the feet and ankle area. Odema is also present in the joints of the fingers. She is unable to wear her normal shoes at present due to the swelling and is living in thongs and runners. She has been diagnosis with osteoarthritis of the fingers about 1/12 years ago, but has no other medical complaints and does not take any medicine at present.

I am thinking I would like to rule out the presence of some systemic pathology. Other that RA, what would you suggest I should look for.

    Thanks,
    Susan

  2. Susan If she is swelling in the hands as well I would suggest a referral back to her GP for Blood work rule out system conditions 1st.

Rather that you looking for something let the test results help decide what needs to be done. IMO
