    I had toenail surgery 4 years ago, on both big toes using phenol to stop the growth of the nail on either side. Since then I've had issues with the growth of the new nail. While the nail does not become ingrown, it doesn't grow stable. It grows slanted and it is risen away from the nail bed as it has nothing to anchor it down on either side.
