My question is how cautious should I be in returning a 12 y/o patient with a unicameral bone cyst in the calcaneus to athletic activity. After about 4 weeks in a cam boot she is pain free. Granted, she also has a flexible flat foot, and I'm not sure how much of her pain was due to her pronation vs. the bone cyst. I'm just wondering how susceptible these lesions are to pathalogic fracture, and if I should discourage her from returning to soccer or track. Trying to increase her activity level in OTC arch supports at the moment, may graduate to custom insoles. Anyone with similar experience?
