    Hi,

Does anyone know what else someone could do with a Pod degree outside Podiatry! I never really wanted to do Podiatry but could never get into medicine so opted for Podiatry at the time. I have now been doing Podiatry for almost 3.5 years and have slowly got more and more disintrested in it. Is there somonething else I could do - using my degree whilst nothaving to spend more years at uni! I have contemplated doing medicine now but due to financial situation long term further study would not be easy. I have also considered doing a masters or further study just not sure what in. Any ideas appreciated?

I am just so bored of Podiatry cutting nails and hard skin from peoples feet! I really need a change!

The block to your desired change is the stipulation of no further study. A degree in Podiatric medicine (as I prefer to call it) make a tremenous stepping off point to other careers - but that almost invariably involves going back to university. If you look about a those podiatrist that have gone on to other - dare I say it, higher - careers, they have invariably gone on to higher degrees etc.. Have you thought of the pharmaceutical industry?

Hi, yes I had thought about the pharmaceutical industry! I am just not sure what areas of areas of study to look at - I would really appreciate any suggestions. I am more than happy to return to university full or part time - just not for 5 years! Its not that I hate Podiatry I enjoy providing people with a useful service but I just feel that it is not soemthing I am passionate about! Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you been able to refine your practice? To specialise in one paricular field that interests you more than other fields? Have you looked into what short courses/workshops are available within the next two years? Just some ideas. Not informed of what type of practice you are in (private/employed/self employed etc) so maybe there could be soem avenue for you to create the clientelle that you wish.

That is one of the things making me feel unsure about studying podiatry next year. Is it really mainly nail cutting? When I say mainly I meant like maybe 80%?

Two friends whom I studied Podiatry with have both used their degree to change careers. One now woeks in clinical trials and the other in health promotion (I believe he is on the Soloman Islands running vaccanation clinics?). Neither did further study, just applied for the jobs and are both happy with the change.

  8. It is what you make of it. I cut nails etc 2-3 times a week and they are the easiest and best appointments of the week.

If you don't mind me asking. How do you make of it? Do you mainly work in a Sports Clinic or? What else do you do apart from cutting nails 2-3 times a week?

  10. Biomechanics Private practice - Moved countries from Oz and set the clinic up from that perspective, but I do think sometime that Life would be easier and less of a headache if I was back in Australia running a General Pod practice with a focus on biomechancis.

10 - 12 Gen pod patients a day with Biomechanical and surgery to make for a good all round day.

So not always greener on the other side of the fence
