holes in big toes of shoe inserts

    I have a problem with my big toe (right foot only) wearing holes in the inserts of any of my athletic/walking/hiking shoes. I recently purchased a pair of Merrell walking/hiking shoes and within 2 months, the inner liner of the shoe has a hole in the area where my big toe would rest. I also have problems with some lower back pain, and my big toe leans toward my other toes (a little). Could the two be related, or so I have a possible problem with my gait causing the abnormal wear in the big...
