I have fortunately had many great applicants for positions in the past and at present, they have all said they have been contacted by agencies...the same people who have contacted me.

Seems ridiculous the amount they want to charge for a service that they are using this very forum to source HR from anyway!

I totally agree.. Most sensible employers will want to do their own checks etc anyway..
What about employing people from overseas? Or in a country post? Would an agency help in that situation?

In those sort of situations yes I agree it can be very helpful. Forums such as these however have been completely sufficient. We have sponsored a podiatrist from the UK and it has been a great working relationship 2 years and going strong.
