The Australasian Podiatry Council (APodC) has made great strides in politics, with the tabling of a petition in Federal Parliament as well as a parliamentary budget submission under consideration.
The Hon Mrs Judi Moylan MP tabled the APodC petition in Federal Parliament on March 1st, 2012.
The petition calls for an increase in Medicare-subsidised podiatry appointments for people with diabetes-related foot complications.
It also calls for subsidies for medical devices that optimize healing and prevent hospitalization and amputation.
Mrs Moylan tabled the petition in the Federation Chamber of Parliament House.

The petition was circulated during Foot Health Month 2011 and attracted thousands of signatures from around Australia.
In the meantime, the Federal Government is considering an APodC budget submission.
The submission outlines the need for an increase in Medicare services for people with diabetes related foot complications to 12 podiatry visits.
It sets out both the health and financial arguments in favour of a preventative approach to the rapidly worsening situation regarding diabetes related foot health problems.
