One of the first things I wanted to do this morning was check the Boston Marathon results; checked twitter ... got the results. .... the turned TV on ...... OMG!
I was doing a surgery this morning talking with the anesthesiologist (a runner also) about the Boston Marathon....then later on found out about the bombings from one of my patients at my office.
This is all very, very sad to me having run Boston in 1979 and still considering Boston to be the Mecca of marathon running.
What kind of people explode bombs in crowds to kill children and maim innocent people?!
Very, very sad.
12 hours after watching some footage and reading some of the info - 1 thing is for sure next years Boston Marathon will be the biggest yet, people already saying they are running to remind the people behind this sort of thing that it will not stop them.
as an aside 33 people were also killed in a car bombing in Iraq yesterday equally as sad
As Mike has already noted, as shocking as this is, this is happening around the world.
This time it's in 'our backyard' so the reality 'hits home'.
How many children have been killed in the Israeli-Palestine ongoing conflict? How many are 'collateral damage' deaths in Afghanistan.
Tragedies all.
Bout 100 civilians in "pillar of defence" and 300-900 in cast lead. And we don't know how many civilians have been killed in Pakistan by US drone bombings, somewhere between none and lots. No real way to know in Afganistan, because there is no way to know how many people would have been killed by the regime had the UK and US not invaded.
The terrorists probably believe that if they hit America hard enough, America will back down. America appears to think the same. I tend to think that both ideas are great recipes for continued strife.
Course we don't know what flavour of evil lunatic was responsible for this atrocity yet so its early to speculate.
The definition of terrorist could easily apply to any of the participants - US, UK, NATO forces and their masters too. And to the nutters who shoot dead kids at schools, plant bombs in public places, blow up airplanes - every country has them - Norway, Finland, Scotland - not just the usual suspects. Twelve years since the start of WWIII - how else to describe a global conflict with acts of war being perpetrated in many countries - and the only beneficiary being the multinationals and financiers who with nefarious influence in the halls of power are the real terrorists. How terribly sad that we seem powerless to stop them.
Thoughts go out to the innocent victims in all atrocities.
Because this was on Patriot's Day, I am wondering if the bombings were intended to be anti-American.
Who needs Twitter when your patients keep on coming in and updating you? I appreciate everyone's comments-so sad.
Speculation is sometimes unrewarding - look at the Oklahoma bomber.
One thing is certain, the London Marathon WILL take place this weekend and there will be a silence for the victims of Boston.
In addition, the runners will wear a black armband.
It's difficult to understand the mentality of anyone leaving any explosive device in a random public place, but a pressure cooker filled with ball bearings. You become numb with the constant horrors the world produces after a while then something like this comes along and you reach a new low. How terribly sad. David Hume once wrote that humans were social beings, who were capable of millions of acts of human kindness, of organisation, conflict and division. What a shame we seem intent on progressing the latter.
On the contrary, David Hume, an empiricist, would view the reaction from all those people that helped selflessly on that horrific day and the global outpouring of compassion to be a very posive sign that unity rather than division prevails in the face of adversity. The darkness of the few only show how bright the light truly is within the vast majority of humanity.
We've been told to spread the info... every little bit counts to find these low life gutless creeps (& that's my polite interpretation!) - which may not be the above suspects (yet, it is a process of illumination).
Too right! However, the better part of the human spirit (marathoner or not) will always prevail.
One suspect dead...the other one now apprehended....now Boston can get back to a little more normalcy....but I still don't understand it all....
Very sad. Whilst acknowledging the plight of all the oppressed, it is highly unfortunate they have adopted a common religious extreme to further their cause. On a human level it is tragic, more innocent people killed needlessly - and for what reason? An eye for an eye?
The real victor in all of this will be the one who has enough courage and conviction to say, "no more".
I am glad to hear that the London Marathon went off without any problems.
Hopefully we can all return to more normal lives in the coming weeks and months.
Does every belief contrary to the government's official position a conspiracy?
I'm not saying this issue, FBI responsibility for the Boston bombing, is believable.
"Operation Northwoods" and the "USS Liberty" episode give cause for concern as far as governments official positions go.
The suppression of the investigations into the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty to those that are not aware is must reading.

I'm a big fan of John Carpenter's "They Live"; I question whether man has walked on the moon; I wonder who shot JFK, but I hate these poxy conspiracy theories when it's pretty obvious who didn't pull the trigger.
Boston Marathon is always run on a Monday since that this is Patriot's Day in Massachusetts.
Boston Marathon will be run on Monday, April 21st with the Elite Men start at 10:00 AM.
