Can I record my podiatrist during consultation?

Now in the dark ages but when I was a practitioner and worked in a hospital diabetic out patient unit there was a fellow who attended from the psychology unit. Diagnosed with Paranoid cognition , he had a history of recording his consultations. and could get quite obstreperous if this was any opposition to do so. He also had a past history of reporting colleagues for imagined (or otherwise) errors. Needless to say my colleagues were reluctant to get involved with him and as I seemed to be the person to refer onto, I found him on my patient list. The chap presented himself in an orderly way if not slightly intimidating, dressed in paramilitary clothing and wearing thick dark glasses. I had been for-warned and before he could tell me he was going to record our consultation, I produced my small tape recorded and explained I would, with his permission, be recording our session. Off came his glasses and from then on we had a positive patient client relationship.
