Hi,
In my practice I do a certain proportion of home visits for patients who cant get out to the clinic.
I was just wondering what other podiatrists use to carry their equipment etc. into someones' house,
Currently I use a domicillary box. More a fishing box than medical case. My concern is that it can be awkward and it doesn't exacly look professional. Also I carry my foot stool in my other hand. There is also the issue of the diary to carry.

Any thoughts?

 

I graduated last year and initially most of my work was domiciliary work. As money was tight I bought a wheeled fabric briefcase from Tesco (with a 5 year guarantee) for £49.99. It has plenty of compartments so that I can keep clean instruments away from dirty instruments and also have compartments for blades, dressings, diary, money etc. Although it is fabric it is the type which can be vacuumed and wiped down with antibacterial wipes.
It has worked well and if wheeling it to the door the extendable handle lets you rest your stool on top of the bag, leaving your hands free.
I would have a look for something similar. Hope this helps Katie

 

Hi, I stole my idea for a dom bag from a trust i worked for, they used tamrac (i think thats how its spelt) camera bags, (for big cameras!). Its great as it has a shoulder strap so frees your hands up, and lots of pockets of all sizes I fit all my basic stuff in easily; and as its fabric it is much lighter then some of cases around. Its also very easy to clean and water proof etc. And as for carry the stool I use a fold down stool which i strap into the tripod carry areas so its all strapped together (another reason why i use this bag rather than a more 'medical' looking one, is that I work mainly in the city centre area in some of the worst areas - so do not want any casual observer to think that i may be carrying anything interesting!)
