Hi - we are hoping to start a community diabetes foot protection team and wonder how other NHS areas have set these up and how successful they have been.Have you any advice from this process that may help and guide us? Many thanks Kate Limb, Suffolk

Hi - sorry I can't be of more help as I don't have experience of this. However I am based in Suffolk and am a returning to practice Podiatrist who is interested in diabetes. If you need any volunteers on this project, I would be available one day a week (willing to help with anything from behind the scenes admin to health promotion) . I would be available from mid May onwards.

    Hi Kate
I know the NHS has been very active with a national screening programme for diabetic retinopathy, the other diabetes complication.
It is about identifying the key stakeholders and set up a protocol

Have a look at what Scotland have done
Foot Risk Awareness and Management Education (FRAME) is an e-learning tool commissioned by the Scottish Government that has been authored to assist in standardising diabetic foot screenings. Training on diabetes mellitus, risk factors and practicalities of foot screening is provided in the form of guidance text, animations, case studies and assessment. This later assessment allows a certificate of completion to be received by the end user at the end of the module if passed. The resource is published by the Learning Technology Section at the University of Edinburgh and can be viewed at: http://www.diabetesframe.org/

It may also be worth contacting Duncan Stang - their "diabetic foot tsar"
and perhaps having a look at the FDUK postings as well.
    Regards
