    Hi All,
We all received a letter from the DVA explaining that from 1 Jan 07, we can ask GP's for an "open-ended" referral for our Chronic patients. So I asked my local DVA Office what does the GP write on the D904? Will just writing "Open-ended", or "indefinite" in the space for Period of Referral suffice?

    They don't know!
    Any ideas?

Typically under HIC rules, a referral must be supplied with a specific referral period in months, or the word "indefinite".

This is how all referrals from GPs to medical specialists work, and I would assume this is how DVA will require referrals to be done for podiatry from now on.

Convincing a GP that an indefinite referral is appropriate may be a more cumbersome challenge though - they might assume you are trying to 'milk' the system...
