Hi there,
I would really appreciate some comments!
I have been a foot health practitioner for 12 years and self employed. I have also worked in nursing/care homes. I would really like to know what uni course I would need to take to become a podiatrist can I do MSc or do I have to start again with the three year hons? Has anyone else done this? I run a normal clinic but if someone needs nail surgery I refer them to the GP as they will then get treatment for free.
I am looking at going to Eastbourne uni but have also seen other people mention that you can get on the course for free but how do you do this? Many thanks for your help!!

 

Please don't reply, I have read lots of opinions from pods and didn't realise we were so hated among you! After reading lots of posts i just don't want any confrontation or bitter replies!

I started my foot 'career' as a Smae trained 'Chiropodist'. I soon realized, that level of training is insufficient. It really is, and more so in this day and age.

I went on to complete the 'approved' Diploma Course (that's what was available, at that time). During my training the Bsc Hons opened up. I went on to complete that too. Later I decided I wanted to extend my scope and completed the surgical training with SOCAP. I attracted a lot of hatred from the PA group, for doing so, who did their own surgery training in the belief that was right, anyone else was wrong.

Well, in spite of that I progressed to become a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon. Later, I decided to move to America. And guess what? All my preceding efforts accounted for nothing. So, I had to go back to Podiatry school, complete another 4 years of training and then another 3 years of hospital residency.

My point: ignore naysayers and haters. Do what you feel you want. Follow your dream. And you will get what you need.
