I had a new patient in my surgery last week, who was amazed that I didn't use a foot spa like her last Podiatrist. I explained to her that I felt the risk of cross infection was too great, and she said her Podiatrist had always tipped the spa water out and added new between patients.
In these days of autoclaving etc does just tipping out water between patients prevent cross infection?
I wouldn't want to use any foot spa after someone else, even if it was fresh water.
Does any one else here use foot spas and if so how do you clean them?
I personally don't fancy the beautician image that goes with them, but each to their own.

 

Invite them to go back to that podiatrist.

I agree. She also had a badly involuted nail, and I aksed if she'd consideed a PNA,and she'd never heard of it, and is very keen. She then commented that I seemed to be more of a medical podiatrist!

 

As a newly graduated Podiatrist I applied and I've been offered a job in company call SHUROPODY, a chain with shoe shops and podiatry clinics working together. After the interview they took me to the treatment room to show me the treatment procedure... It involves foot soaking... in a bidet. My apologies to the colleagues employed by this company but I feel uncomfortable to comment my thoughts and I'm sure majority of you would know why.

I noticed this thread about footbaths when I was researching the bath issue. I have recently bought a Podiatry practice where having a footbath( in a earthenware bath) is part of the standard treatment ( done by the associate podiatrists there). Any advice on heath and safety issues and how to change things gratefully received.

I dont agree with them in a podiatry practice, but you could consider disposable plastic liners.
