I work in a chiropody practice and we are desperate for a general toe nail cutter. We have a lady who was a beautician and has her NVQ 3 but works for us as a receptionist. She is interested in working as a foot care assistant. Does anyone know what courses she would have to take. I have looked and looked and there is so much written that it gets a bit confusing. She would always work along side one of us so if anything came in that was more than just toe nails we would take over.

 

Legally she requires no training and no qualification. However, it would be wise to send her on any course which offers insurance. Why not ask the Society?

Hi , you could always look at The Smae Institute for a FHP course .

 

I have a foot care professional who works along side me at times. I works very well. The SMAE institute is one option, the institute of chiropodist and podiatrists now offer a course as well. :morning:

 

According to SCPOD, training for a foot care assistant ma begin once they are employed and are trained by a podiatrist i.e. yourself.

I was under the impression that all training for the SOCAP Foot Health Assistant course was done under the auspices of the NHS (following a strict syllabus that included mentoring and examinations) in order to be employed by the NHS only? In addition these practitioners sign an undertaking not to work in the Private Sector unsupervised.

Maybe someone else can clarify this?
