i am not really a podiatrist but an acupuncturist with a special interest in the foot and affecting biomechanics of the body. I spent 30 years selling sports shoes and am old enough to remember before Adidas came to australia. Tiger shoes were next but it was another 10 yrs before the American brands arrived. I came across this forum after searching for gait modifications post athrodesis of first metatarsal joint. The op was a complete success but 2 yrs down the track is causing major lateral weight transfer gait problems. I blame myself as I had enough knowledge to expect this result if I had had thought it through but of course one reads all the blogs with glowing reports from surgery in the last year. Longer term results much more difficult to source for a non podiatrist have a podiatry app may 6 but any written help here much appreciated

As an allied health professional you are most welcome.

Without surgery - the deterioration within the joint would likely lead to fusion. The result would possibly see you in the same position that you are currently in.

Have you seen a Podiatrist yet? Correct footwear & an appropriate device within the shoe may help to optimize your gait & redistribute load/force.

    Good luck
