    Hi all,
A patient recently informed me that her vascular specialist had advised her to rub hirudoid cream around her ankles to reduce the likelihood of blood clots. Can anyone enlighten me on this subject?
    Regards Lorraine

It has antithrombotic properties and also used for inflammatory vein conditions. It is an heparinoid (derived from heperin), but how can it penetrate systemically to help prevent "blood clots", unless by "blood clots", the patient was refering to a superficial haematoma (bruise), in which case it would probably have some effect.
