    Hi guys.

few questions for the experienced out there.

limitations of L.A for podiatrists in Australia??.

Anybody use L.A injections alone or in combination with orthotic therapy for Plantar fasciitis??

I've seen this method of treatment used, weekly visits x6 weeks(0.5% marcaine, 5ml) with success on this occasion and i believe its been very effective treatment.

google search through up nothing of LA alone evidence. some results combination of steriod and LA.

Anybody know of any evidence behind this form of treatment for plantar fasciitis.

Pavier JCS, Liggins WJ: did a study, i beleive it was " The use of 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride plain solution injections in the treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis. "

I think thats the right reference. I'm sure Bill will put me right / elaborate. I'll drop him an email and ask him to come give us the full reference.

I beleive the study showed a pretty good success rate.

    Regards
    Robert

    Hello

Please see Pavier J C S and Liggins W J, 'The Use of 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride plain solution injections in the treatment of plantar fasciitis', British Journal of Podiatry Vol 4 No3. (August 2001). Essentially, this was a brief audit of 25 patients who underwent infiltration of L.A. under tibial block. All were recalcitrant cases, 44% achieved total resolution of symptoms and the mean percentage reduction in pain was 76.8%.

As with all such studies, the low patient number may be relevant and the mechanism of action is not known. There is, however, a pretty good list of references carried out, I am grateful to note, by my co-researcher!

Hope this is helpful, please let me know if you go on to a further study.

    All the best

    Hi Bill,

    Thanks for the info.

Not at that stage in my career to be undertaking research. However, I'm keen on trying out new treatment stratagies.

I will do a case study if i decide to to to take this option and will let you know the outcome.

More searching to be done and info to be gathered

    Thanks for the interest
