Hi folks,

I'm about to begin my Theory of Pod Surgery dissertation, the subject of which will be assessing the efficacy of the Omega XP laser on pain relief in plantar fasciitis. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has done something similar, or indeed if anyone uses LLLT regulary who may have undertaken a study investigating its effects. Your thoughts/opinions and anything else you'd like to share regarding laser therapy are most appreciated!!

Hi Louise,

I use the Omega LLT for all sorts of things and have used it in the past for P. Fasc symptoms in combination with stretching and orthotics.

I found that post treatment the symptoms might be slightly more painful but then decrease after 18-24 hours.

The problem is that the treatments need to be regular and I found that the best results came from treating on a series of days like 1, 4, 9, 14, 20.

This is obviously going to be too expensive for some patients (I am a Private Practitioner). One also needs to be aware of the strengths of the laser and also to experiment with different levels and times to ensure (as much as you can) that the tissues aren't being over treated with the same levels (as this will/may have a detrimental effect on healing).

I don't use it as much now on PF mainly due to the cost aspect for the patient, but find it excellent for other soft tissue injuries and especially wound healing. I am treating a diabetic ulcer at the moment which hopefully I will submit details of to Omega for their records/website in due course, but suffice to say the healing rate in this case has been incredible.

I did my undergrad dissertation on uses of LLLT. If you PM me your email I can probably dig out a copy to send. Might be useful for references if nothing else! If there's any papers you find hard to get hold of I might have a few saved as well.
