    Hi

A patient had mpjt fusion 4 years ago (because of painful hallux limitus) but now has pain in the ipjt, X-rays show OA in the joint.

I wondered if anyone out there had any experience of managing a patient with a painful, arthritic ipj following fusion of the mpj.

    Thanks in advance.

I've seen x-rays of very large screw across the IPJ being broken. Are you asking about surgical management, or post op or "conservative" management. Attempting normal walking with fused toe joint puts an incredible amount of bending stress on a toe. The patient should be in rocker tip shoes post op. They probably should try those shoes pre op to see if they still want the surgery.
