We have had previous threads on the Nike Free running shoe and many on barefoot running. Recently the term 'minimalist' has crept in to the running shoe vernacular to describe the use of the Nike Free, similar shoes and the use of racing flats as the training shoe.

Here is a 20 minute audio from Running Times:

It features an interview with 3 people: a running shoe owner; a marathon runner who is a 'minimalist'; and podiatrist, Brian Fullem.

Here is a great article showing "minimalist shoes" from as early as the 1930s. Why do the barefoot runners think they are the ones that invented lightweight running shoes????

I raced in the Tiger Jayhawk (I won a pair of them in my first marathon at age 17) and the photo below is me running in my Tiger X-Calibur GTs on top of the parking garage at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1984. Great memories from great shoes.
