What a lack-lustre document this is. It's nicely presented and I have no doubt it cost a bomb to produce, but for what? In the diabetes section the presented case history suggests that a well-staffed diabetic footcare team can evidently save a Trust £63,000.00 per annum. But it costs £50,000.00 + for the podiatry staff!
Why would any Chief Exec think that made any sense? Better care for the patients? Better outcomes? Where is the evidence? I'm not saying the evidence doesn't exist, but it certainly isn't in the document in any form that I recognise.
Diabetes is important to podiatry, probably more so than the ischaemic foot, falls prevention, or RA because it's an area we are uniquely trained to deal with (provided we are allowed to), and it's increasing worldwide.
This document makes a very poor case for increasing or improving podiatry resources in diabetes.
