Hi

I have been contacted by a father who wants some advice regarding his 13 year old daughter who has painful clicking toes.

She does a lot of gymnastics and his healthy in all aspects. She says it is in all her toes and is present most of the time.

Any ideas please?:wacko:

 

The lack of response to your question, probably reflects how little is known about joint "noises"!

The clicking could be due to any number of diverse things:
- tendon clicking over bone
- synovial fluid cavitation
- adhesion in the joint being broken

 

I see the last reply on this was 2013.
Is there any more known about clicking? I have a 6-year old patient who has constant clicking in her feet - the loudest is peroneal snapping but multiple joints click away with every step. She finds it uncomfortable at night and can't go to sleep until all the joints are 'cracked'. We have changed footwear and given her some control (she is quite mobile), tried massage and manipulation but the need to crack her joints and the snapping/popping noises continue…..
