I have injured the 3rd MTPJ, 6 weeks ago playing soccer, and stumbled across an article in AJPM, 2003 by Matt Dilnot and Thomas Michaud, titled Plantar Plate Rupture. I have all the symptoms stated, especially the medial deviation of the 3rd digit.
It does not seem to be improving, and I can only walk without pain in sneakers with orthoses and PMA padding. Walking barefoot is very painful, especially with a cavus foot. I would love to get back to weight baring exercise, ie soccer.
My question is .... Is surgery the next option or do I hang out and allow it to heal itself?
Has anyone done the surgery or seen the results?
Thank you
Mark2.
